Charu Vivek Bhandari, a homemaker, didn’t know her entrepreneurial capability until the relationship manager at her bank mentioned she was having difficulty finding someone to provide lunch. Charu happily offered to send some sandwiches over, least expecting the banker would insist on paying since the food was required on a regular basis. After much hesitation a bill of Rs.560 was sent, and that’s how the story of ‘Caketree’ began. With a workforce of one (the house help) and the delivery vehicle (the kids old bicycle), the venture has come a long way and become the backend wholesale supplier to all major coffee chains, multiplexes, the Airport, and IT companies in and around Chandigarh. Those six sandwiches are now six thousand, with a whole lot of bakery, confectionery and savory products added along the way. Her company “Armastus Foods Pvt. Ltd” has set up kitchens across Punjab and all major cuisines are a part of its repertoire. It’s been over twelve years as Charu’s passion continues to grow from strength to strength.
